West County Landscapes Ltd is well established in Saddleworth and each fortnight we regularly maintain over 40 gardens in Denshaw, Delph, Dobcrosss, Diggle, Uppermill, Greenfield, Grasscroft and parts of Oldham (Springhead, Grotton, Lees, Mossley).
When, on relocating to Saddleworth in 2005 we started to expand the garden maintenance business to include gardens in Huddersfield, Saddleworth and Oldham. I soon found that the weather was much harsher, wetter and colder than in West Yorkshire where most of my work had been previously. I took time to understand the impact this weather had on the gardens and adjusted the garden maintenance as required e.g. we usually cut the grass from February to November but in Saddleworth the grass cutting season is mid-April to late October. After October we tend to mow on a higher cut to tidy up the lawn and to pick up the leaves. The final cut of the year is usually the first week in November at the latest.
Due to the weather conditions in Saddleworth there is an early Autumn and late spring which has an effect on the flowering plants and means they often flower up to four weeks later than areas further south.
I have a good knowledge of plants and can help you plan out your garden with a scheme providing colour all year round. I will arrange the plants in such a way to provide flowers, scent and leaf variety. One of my favourite plants that is particularly suitable for the Saddleworth weather conditions is Viburnum Tinus. It starts to flower in October, sporadically flowers during the winter with pink buds and white flowers and then towards April/May it comes into full flower which is followed by purple berries. It works well against walls, used in hedges or just as a standard garden shrub.
